portraits from an okanagan orchard

Having a backyard orchard is pretty perfect for a still life painter – it has allowed me to get up close and personal with my favourite subject matter.

This series was conceived as a collection of still life paintings, but as the project progressed I realized that they were more like portraits – the unique characteristics of the different fruits becoming more apparent with each new piece.

As a still life painter I am always looking for new ways to see and appreciate the everyday things and environments that surround us. In these portraits I hope that the vitality, abundance, and personality of our humble orchard fruit shines through.
